Some sixty suppliers were present at the Computer Furniture and Home Office Show in Monterey, California. Manufacturers are very optimistic about the future of computer furniture. Computer retailers are often resistant to computer furniture despite high margins. The computer furniture market is both embryonic and confused. The market is divided between traditional and high-tech, ergonomic furniture. Most sales are assemble-it-yourself low priced units.

Detector Boom, CB Rebound to Fuel Market Growth in 1984

The personal communications industry did better than expected in 1983. Sales of radar detectors should grow to $175 million, an increase of twenty-five per cent over 1983. Sales of CBs are predicted to increase three per cent, to $134.9 million. Scanners should see an increase of 5.2 per cent in sales, to $120.9 million.

1984 should be a very good year for consumer electronics, undoubtedly outperforming the rest of the economy. Except in the low-end products there should not be any shortages. Unless new technology solves them, technical problems may hurt cordless phone sales.
