Camcorders have revolutionized the consumer home video market. Continuing improvements in camcorder technology have resulted in palmtop camcorder designs and models that integrate large position-adjustable liquid crystal display monitors with the camcorder. Manufacturers in 1998 are concentrating on developing products that will help them retain or enlarge existing shares in a rather limited market. A study of trends in key markets will help camcorder makers tailor strategies to match different sets of market demands.

Digital camcorders: as prices come down, digital models restore vigor to camcorder industry

The increasing popularity of digital camcorders has prompted manufacturers to bring out an array of new products every year, resulting in a more intensified competition. In the global camcorder market, about 40% of the 12 million units sold are digital models. Two factors that have been especially important in triggering growth in the market for digital camcorders are the reduction in prices and the growing recognition among consumers of the benefits of digital photography products.

Digital video gives action cue for camcorder releases
Article Abstract:
Worldwide demand for digital video-format (DV) camcorders continue to grow. Sales have been particularly strong in the US, Europe and Japan. In response to the strong profit potential of DV camcorders, manufacturers are racing to introduce new models in these markets. Among the Japanese companies that have already launched in 2000 their latest DV camcorders are Sony Corp, Matsushita Electric Company Ltd, Sharp Corp, Victor Company Japan Ltd and Canon Inc.
