Japan's market outlook for 1999 snd beyond
Article Abstract:
The Japanese semiconductor market is expected to grow by 10.6% in 1999, due to an expected boost from newly-launched Windows 98 operating software, as well as from PCs priced at $1,000 or below. The market, which was worth $34.159 billion in 1998 after declining 10.3% from 1997, is further expected to grow by 12.6% in 2000 and 12.3% in 2001, before reaching $57.62 billion in 2002, with a growth rate of 12.1%. However, Japanese share in the world market is foreseen to decline consistently, from 22.7% in 1997 to 18.0% in 2002.

Water spots: the scourge of wafer dryers
Article Abstract:
Silicon wafer drying's critical role in increasing yield performance in wafer production is currently getting increased attention. Spin drying, the traditional method of getting rid of excess water spots, is giving way to improved methodologies that include isolating the wafers in special environments that will promote drying. The idea is to reduce the usual drying time of 10 to 15 minutes into 10 to 15 seconds in order to effect a single-wafer drying system.
