Market for MP3 players readies for rocketing countdown in Japan
Article Abstract:
Demand for MP3 audio portable players could triple in Japan to 300,000 units for fiscal year 2000. These players, also known as solid-state audio players, lets users store and play music that has been compressed using MPEG Audio Layer 3 or other compression methods. They are also capable of recording digital music data onto semiconductor memory chips. The players are convenient. but the sound it provides still falls short of Hi-Fi quality.

Summer months heat up Japan's DVD player shipments
Article Abstract:
Sales of DVD players are surging in Japan with Aug 1999 shipments 90% higher than shipments in Aug 1998. DVD shipments for all of FY1999 is expected to amount to 550,000 to 600,000 units. The increases in sales volume have coincided with increasing product diversity. There are now players selling for less than Y50,000 and there are now portable, home theater models and models compatible with the DVD-Audio format.
