Digital photography flashes into view at Photokina exhibition
Article Abstract:
The Photokina Cologne 1998 exhibition, which will be held at the Cologne fairgrounds in Germany from September 16 to 21, 1998, will feature products from the photo, computer, electronics, appliances and other related image-communications industries. Representing more than 90% of the world's exportable product categories, the exhibition for 1998 is tagged as World's Fair for Imaging. The trade show is anticipated to attract 170,000 visitors, as well as 1,600 participant-companies from 45 countries.

Amidst cellular boom in Korea, makers watch profits go to U.S
Article Abstract:
South Korea's decision to develop its cellular telephone service using narrow-band code division multiple access (CDMA) technology has proven to be a costly undertaking. A survey released by the Ministry of Information and Communications has determined that four firms have already paid a total of $235 million in licences and royalties for the right to use the technology to US-based Qualcomm Inc. The use of CDMA has also limited their ability to enter regions that uses other systems.

DVD makers in Korea craft own techniques in quest of market share
Article Abstract:
DVD equipment manufacturers in South Korea, particularly Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and LG Electronics Inc, are adding distinctive features and functions to their products to gain market share. For example, Samsung's in-house technology has focused on devising a novel pickup and chip set. Taking a different direction, LG has used its expertise to the DVD mechanism and user interface. Both companies offer multiple-disc DVD players and sell some of the products for stand-alone use.
