Toshiba seeks 2-digit jump in mobile phone sales
Article Abstract:
Toshiba Corp expects a 20% rise in the global sales of its mobile phone products in 1999. The company believes mobile phone sales would reach between 130 billion to 140 billion yen in 1999, compared with 110 billion yen in 1998. Toshiba says the higher sales will expand its Personal Digital Cellular terminals, analog Advanced Mobile Phone System terminals and code-division multiple access equipment lineup. The company is also accelerating the research and development of its broadband CDMA systems.

Digital mobile phone evolve into multiple-function terminals
Article Abstract:
Development of cellular telephones in Japan will enter its third stage with the introduction of the wide-band code division multiple access (W- CDMA) system in May 2001. Evolving from analog to digital models, W-CDMA, which offers fine-quality, stable communications, enables mobile terminals to handle voice communications, large-capacity data transmissions, and still- and moving-image transfers. Also, the system allows subscribers to use the same terminal anywhere in the world.
