Extensions to DVCPRO widen range of broadcast improvement
Article Abstract:
Matsushita Electronic Industrial Company Ltd is developing the 800 and 400 Series of its DVCPRO line of digital video equipment under the Panasonic brand. The 800 is the successor to the 700 Series and incorporates features such as Serial Data Transport Interface for compression-based system integration and 184 minutes of recording and playback. Matsushita has also created the DVCPRO 50 and P formats by scaling 25Mbps bit rate to 50Mbps. The DVCPRO 50 uses a 4:2:2 interlaced component signal and intra- frame compression at a 3:3:1 ratio.

Trio plans to bridge HAVi, Jini architectures
Article Abstract:
Sun Microsystems, Sony Corp and Philips Electronics have formed a partnership that will develop interoperability between Sun's Jini technology and the Home Audio-Video interoperability (HAVi) architecture. The Jini technology permits devices to be connected to computer networks through hot-plugging while the HAVi defines a uniform platform for home networks. Philips would handle licensing for the HAVi group, which would include Grunding, Hitachi, Matsushita, Sharp, Toshiba and Thomson Multimedia.
