Five companies team up for consumer education, interconnectivity
Article Abstract:
Five Japanese consumer electronics companies have formed an alliance for educating consumers about high-speed mode D-VHS and on interconnectivity for D-VHS decks and broadcast satellite digital Hi-Vision tuners. These companies are Victor Company of Japan, Hitachi, Matsushita, Mitsubishi Electric and Toshiba. They will used the Digital Hi-Vision Video designation in all their product catalogs and advertising. They would also work on interconnectivity for the three product categories.

Color TVs, DVD players do well in Japan
Article Abstract:
The sale of audio-video (A/V) products in Japan reported mixed results in Nov 1999, compared with the same month in 1998. While sales of color television sets and DVD players reached record levels of 962,000 and 51,000 units each, sales of VCRs and value-added wide-screen TV sets reported declines of 3.2% and 19.5% to 702,000 and 124,000 units, respectively. Declining sales were also reported for such items as camcorders and Hi-Vision TVs.

Japan's color TV export inch up; VCR exports dip
Article Abstract:
Japanese exports of color TVs has increased to 258,000 units in Apr, 2000, a 1.6% increased compared with shipments in Apr 1999. Meanwhile, exports of video cassette recorders slipped 25.3% in the same period, which was primarily caused by dramatic sales drops in Hong Kong and the US. The country's imports of color TVs, on the other hand, reached 723,000 units, an increased from Apr 1999.
