Chinese consumer electronics company Konka will introduce its improved-definition and high-definition television sets in mid-1999. The 32-inch, flat-screen HDTV features 1920x 1080i display and has the standard 16:9 aspect ratio. It has a Digital Terrestial Decoder which supports all 18 ATSC-approved broadcast signals and is equipped with the AC3 decoder for Dolby 5.1 surround sound and VSV channel decoding from SDTV to HDTV source signals. The product retails at $3,000. A 42-inch DP4288W plasma display format which will be available in July 1999 is priced at $8,000.

New lines of wireless communications products were introduced by manufacturers at the CTIA Wireless '99. Among the new products are Sony Corp.'s Uceiver ICB-U655 and the second-generation pager MP-7001. Nokia Corp. introduced its 8860 cellular phones with mirrored chrome finish and the model 6185 triband/dual band CDMA phone with high-resolution display and Caller ID. Other new products are NEC's Digitalk MAX 2100 and 3100 cellular phones and Ericsson's KF788 dual band, tri-mode D-AMPS phone.
