Pioneer Video moves away from analog

Pioneer unveiled new audio and video products at a New York show. The highlight of the company's video offerings was a rear-projection, 64 inch, 16x9, HDTV-ready set that features a resolution of 1920 x 1080i. The HDTV- ready set will be the first of HDTV-ready models Pioneer will be introducing in 1999. Pioneer's home audio introductions included the IS Series of minisystems and the MusiQube, a multi-colored, three-piece minisystem.

Prices, features drive VCR vitality
Article Abstract:
VCRs shipment to dealers is up despite the introduction of DVD, with shipments for the first 20 weeks of 1999 totaling 6,771,231, up nearly 25% from 5,420,224 for the same period in 1998. The continued vitality of the VCR market is due to much lower prices. VCRs sold for $300 before now has a price tag between $100 and $150. In addition, manufacturers continue to introduce new features to VCRs, such as Mitsubishi's HSU 795 Super VHS.
