Hitachi Maxell spins technology for optical media, zeroes in on DVD
Article Abstract:
Hitachi Maxell Ltd is promoting is optical media which include MiniDiscs, magneto-optical discs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs, recordable DVDs, DVD-RWs and DVD- RAMs. Hitachi Maxell is preparing to launch a DVD-RW before the end of 2000. The product will provide a 4.7GB capacity and suitable for 120 minutes of recording. The DVD-RWs will enable 1,000 cycles of image recording and erasure. The company will apply its own substrate-formation and film-formation technologies to ensure a low error rate and a wide margin for the DVD-RW and to enable the disc to record images of excellent quality.

Focusing on optical media, Hitachi Maxell broadens global supply

Hitachi Maxell sells an extensive array of recording media products including magnetooptical (MO) discs, MiniDiscs, recordable and rewritable CDs. It will also start selling DVD-RAMs and recordable DVDs by the spring of 1998. Hitachi Maxell believes that the 5.25-inch MO discs would have the biggest demand overseas, and expects 1998 global sales of MO discs would be 30% higher from 1997. The company has also raised its output of recordable CDs to 4.5 million units monthly as it expects demand for these products to grow in the future.
