Hype Fades into Background as Suppliers Battle for Survival
Article Abstract:
At the 1984 Summer CES hardware and software suppliers talked more about survival than about grandiose sales. The sales slowdown in the weeks prior to the show set the mood. Software suppliers promoted expanded and varied product lines. As a result of the heavy competition amongst software suppliers, distributors asked for, and got, lower prices. In the hardware arena there were very few new product introductions.

COMDEX Wrap Up: Suppliers Offer Fruit of Labors as Industry Gets Down to Business
Article Abstract:
The atmosphere at the 1984 COMDEX-Spring show was much less frenzied than in past shows. The computer industry appears to be maturing. There were few surprising product introductions. Hewlett-Packard's portable computers drew the most attention. Integrated software packages continue to be the biggest story in software.

Comdex Report: Suppliers Stake Out Claims in Frantic IBM Landrush
Article Abstract:
At the Fall (1983) Comdex it was evident the major dilemma of hardware makers and software producers was how to survive in the same market as IBM. Many new products had a high degree of IBM compatibility. Competition amongst software producers remained strong with five companies offering windowing programs.
