Japanese factories pass MD duties to offshore facilities
Article Abstract:
Japanese manufacturers of MiniDisc stereo players are turning to offshore production due to the strength of the yen's international exchange rate and increasing price competition. This has resulted in an increase in imports while production has posted a double-digit decline. The shift of production to offshore bases such as Asia has led to extra drops in cost which even includes transportation costs to, and distribution costs within, Japan.
