Japanese production of parts, devices up 18.8% in October

Japan's production of electronic parts and devices in Oct 2000 climbed to Y1.05 trillion, an increase of 18.8% from the same period a year ago. From Jan-Oct 2000, the cumulative total reached Y9.73 trillion, a rise of 18.6 from the corresponding period in the previous year. Production of electronics parts alone reached Y354.77 billion in Oct 2000, an increase of 11.9% from the same period in 1999. Similarly, production of passive parts hit Y120.34 billion, rising 20.6%. Also, production of connector parts reached Y179.07 billion, increasing 17.8%

Japanese exports of components, devices rise 20%

Japan's exports of electronic components and devices in Nov 2000 reached Y807.91 billion, an increase of 19.5% from the same period in 1999. From Jan-Nov 2000 exports hit Y8.68 trillion, a rise of 19.2% from the corresponding period in the previous year. The country's exports of electronic components in Nov 2000 alone increased 21.5% to Y168.33 billion. Only transducers among Japanese components reported a decline, decreasing 0.9%

Sharp forecasts rising demand for Japanese electronics
Article Abstract:
Sharp Corp predicted that demand for electronics in Japan will increase 5.6% in FY2001, reaching Y14.16 trillion. On the other hand, exports of Japanese electronics will rise 7.3% to Y6.36 trillion. Electronics include finished electronic equipment, devices and components. According to the company, demand for electronic equipment in Japan in FY2001 will grow Y10.18 trillion, 4.0% higher than demand in the previous fiscal year.
