Riding on computer trend, makers cultivate new markets for CD-Rs
Article Abstract:
The global demand for recordable CDs (CD-Rs) is projected to jump by 51% to 950 million units in 1999. The market for CD-Rs soared by 157% and 210% to 203 million and 630 million in 1997 and 1998, respectively. Meanwhile, the worldwide market for rewritable CDs is expected to expand to 40 million discs in 1999, sharply up from 2 million units in 1997 and 11 million in 1998. As a result, makers of disk drives are developing plural- use drives that can accomodate writing and erasing of rewritable CDs, writing of CD-Rs, readout from CD-ROM discs.

Anritsu gauges growth recovery chances abroad
Article Abstract:
Anritsu Corp of Japan is still aiming for a double-digit growth in measuring instrument sales for FY 1998 despite a 2.4% drop in sales during the first half of the fiscal year. The company's confidence is based on strong exports to the US and Europe in the first half of FY 1998. To achieve its sales target of $22.7 billion in the second half of FY 1998, Anritsu will strengthen support systems in the US and Europe.
