Monmouth Computer Services of Shewsbury, New Jersey, is doing well despite competition from big name retail operations. Monmouth's owner, Larry Cohen, believes that service and education are the formula for success. Monmouth regularly runs free seminars and offers extensive post-sale training. The company's classroom occupies one-third of the store's four thousand square foot floor space. In 1983, the three-year-old store grossed about one million dollars. Fifty per cent of sales are to small businesses, and the other fifty to affluent customers.

Atari is attempting to improve its image. James Morgan, at the head of Atari, has streamlined operations and instilled discipline and direction in the company. The company is introducing its first computers aimed at small businesses. The company will be introducing an extensive list of software to make up for weak third party support. The software stresses education. Despite reports of poor sales, a report from Audits & Surveys says that the company's share of the home computer market has increased to twenty percent.

Video Rights Bidding Battle: From Skirmish to All-Out War
Article Abstract:
As a result of spectacular sales of precorded videotapes, suppliers are bidding aggressively for the rights to distribute unreleased movies or music videos. Videos made by the Rolling Stones in the 1960s have been the object of bidding by CBS- Fox Video, MCA and Vestron. MCA's offer of $1.5 million is the highest bid ever made for a music video. At that price the company will have to sell 100,000 cassettes to break even.
