Clarion Co Ltd's latest products for car navigation systems, which are part of the Addzest series, have DVD or CD-ROM technology and support Japan's i-mode system. All in all, the company is adding seven DVD-based navigation systems, four CD-ROM based navigation systems and an optical beacon for the Vehicle Information and Communications System. Prices are $1,633 for the NAX960DVD, $2,596 for the NAX960DVD, which includes multiple access, and $3,101 for the NVC960DVD.

Pioneer Electronic Corp's AVIC-D7000, AVIC-D9500 and AVIC-D9000 DVD-ROM- based car navigation systems automatically learns the routes that are usually used by the driver. With the capabilities to store data about bank ATMs, post offices, business hours and available parking spaces, the products boast of a normal map on the left portion of the screen and three-dimensional graphic map displays that feature realistic scenery on the right side of the screen.
