Article Abstract:
Shipments of Japanese-made semiconductor manufacturing equipment dropped 40% to 49.765 billion yen from Dec 1997 to Dec 1998. The most substantial decline was in October, when orders fell 72.6%. Orders within Japan, including imports, dropped 35.9% to 33.932 billion yen in Dec 1998, compared to orders in the same month a year ago. Japanese manufacturers, however, believe that the market will recover in 1999.
