Power supplier plans PHS network for information
Article Abstract:
Kansai Electric Power Company Inc, a major electric utility in Japan, plans to build a network for information exchanges by installing an electronic meter and a Personal Handy Phone System terminal in each customer's homes. The construction and testing of an experimental network is expected to commence in 2000. The utility also plans to offer a service to connect to the Internet.

NTT's data communications undergoes field tests
Article Abstract:
NTT DoCoMo and NTT Central Personal Communications Network Inc are testing their 64Kbps data communications service, which runs through Mar 31, 1999. The service is based on the Personal Handy Phone System (PHS) and conforms to the PHS Internet Access Forum Standards. The PHS uses two 32Kbps data channels from a commercial service provider to achieve the 64Kbps transmission.
