Recordable CDs reinforce market footholds, prompt product revisions

Recordable compact discs (CDs) are one of the products that show strong promise in consumer and business applications among the diverse forms of recording media available in the market in 1999. Recordable CDs not only offer the random access and digital recording capabilities typically found in most dics media, but also permit large capacity storage and the ability to record diverse kinds of data. The Japan Recording Media Industries Assn has predicted a 50% increase in the global demand for recordable Cds to 950 million units.

MiniDics gather momentum for U.S., European market liftoffs
Article Abstract:
The demand for MiniDiscs (MDs) in Europe and North America is expected to improve further as customers become familiar with the product. The sale of the 64mm diameter discs in Japan, the country where it first gained popularity, has reached 4.07 mil units in 1997, a 58% improvement from 1996 figures. MDs, which are expected to become popular worldwide, is already being manufactured by Japanese firms from their factories abroad in order to lower production costs.
