Robotic line tools work on the right of way
Article Abstract:
Chubu Electric Power Co. of Nagoya City, Japan has developed a prototype robotic arm and truck which is projected to improve the safety and productivy of linemen. The robotic arm is a load balanced arm that has eight joints and a torque strength of 260 ft-lb, and allows for the attachment of different tools such as nut drivers and wire strippers. The prototype truck was purposely built for the attachment of electrical equipment on poles. The truck has a manipulator arm with four cameras to enable the lineman to monitor work inside the truck via monitors.

Design transmission lines for any polymer insulator
Article Abstract:
Insulators are manufactured with varying mechanical ratings, which makes it difficult for utilities to buy more than one brand without designing power lines compatible with them. In designing universal lines, electrical specifications should first be satisfied, and then the insulator may be chosen based on mechanical limitations.
