Sony Goes Stereo with Beta Hi-Fi-Ready Model, TV Decoder
Article Abstract:
Sony executives believe that although their Beta line is selling very well, there is a market perception problem. Beta format sales are up thirty per cent over last year and there are approximately 2.7 million units already in the United States. To combat the image problem Sony is introducing new products and initiating an aggressive advertising campaign. Betamovie has been well accepted, and the company is phasing out its non-Betamovie portables. Sony is adding hi-fi capabilities to its television line and has no plans to add a monitor-receiver to its line.

Second Half: Stereo TV, VCR Hi Fi Add New Fuel to Blazing Video Market
Article Abstract:
Sales for the video industry during the second half of 1984 should continue to grow at a record rate. Suppliers are approaching the period with caution. Executives agree that last year's pattern of a strong first half and a weaker second half will be repeated in 1984. Stereo TV will start to sell well when the major networks start stereo broadcasts. Thus far, the introduction of 8mm has not affected VCR sales.
