Stereo, Digital TV Could See Retail Shelves in '84

Both stereo and digital television sets should be for sale in 1984. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) should make a decision on a single standard for broadcasting by March, 1984, permitting manufacturers to include stereo sets in their 1985 model lines. Several producers have indicated that they will have digital sets using ITT's digital chips on the market in 1984.

Kodak Complicating Already Confused 8mm Video Picture

Kodak is planning on entering the video industry in 1984 with a quarter inch (eight mm) camcorder. Traditional manufacturers of videocassette equipment have been holding off introducing the quarter inch camcorder because of the excellent half inch sales. The appearance of the VHS Video Movie this year may dampen interest in the quarter inch equipment.

TV Dealers Getting Back into Audio - With Stereo TV
Article Abstract:
Stereo sound TV will be an important factor in the 1985-model market. The FCC is expected to open the way for stereo tv broadcasts in the second quarter of 1984. The three discrete sound channel system proposed by Zenith have been accepted by the industry as a standard. Stereo sound sets should run about $100- $150 more than normal sets.
