Sony Sets Wheels Spinning for Car MD Marketing Projects
Article Abstract:
Sony Corp of Japan, the company that developed the mini-disc (MD) format, hopes to increase the sale of its automobile-use MD players in 1998 by a factor of 10 compared to 1997 figures. The company, which already controls 70% of the world's demand for car MD players, plans to sell twice as many MD players in 1998 as it did in 1997 in Japan. Sony also intends to enhance efforts in supplying its car MD players to car makers as part of their factory built-in audio systems.

Sony seeks ways to quicken pace of minidisc market growth

Sony Corp of Japan, the original proponent of the MiniDisc (MD) format, has established an MD Audio Promotion Team that will focus on new product development, MD format promotion and interest generation for the product. The company has been taking the initiative in marketing the product not only in Japan but in the US and Europe as well. Sony's efforts seem to be working as sales of the MD format, both hardware and software, have shown increases since 1997.

Seeking rebound in Asia, Aiwa adds muscle to regional activities
Article Abstract:
Aiwa Company Ltd of Japan is stepping up marketing activities in Asia in 1999 to boost sales of its consumer audio/video products. The company has set up a sales unit in Hong Kong in Mar 1999 and will open a wholly owned sales subsidiary in Thailand within the year. For its MiniDisc audio business, Aiwa plans to manufacture several models for 1999 that will also be marketed in overseas markets, including Europe and the US.
