Sony technologies yield pocket-sized camera for still, moving images

Sony Corp has rolled out the Ruvi CCD-CR1 camcorder, which features a novel camcorder mechanism and pocket-sized design. Available for Y87,000 in Japan, the camcorder can record up to 30 minutes of moving images in fine picture quality, with accompanying sound. The camera, which uses a Hi8 tape and features a 2.5-inch color LCD monitor, can also record still images, with a similar quality to those produced using digital still cameras. The Ruvi CCD-CR1 combines with a PC Card to become the CCD-Crisp camera, which can be connected to a notebook computer for downloading audio, video and image content, and is worth Y123,000.

Hitachi Ltd introduced in 1999 the Slim 52 C52-LCl, a 52-in LCD projection TV with a high contrast ratio. The product is a rear projection model which uses one 1.6 in LCD panel with 1.44 million pixels. It uses a high performance optical system to project images on the screeen and is also among the first to employ a direct liquid-cooled projection system. Hitachi has developed its own super-wide angle high focus lens with a shortened focal distance.
