Hitachi redesigns basic camcorder mechanism for extra compactness
Article Abstract:
Hitachi Ltd will roll out a new range of high-performance, compact camcorders in 1998. The newly-developed compact chassis mechanism in the camcorders is around 30% smaller than the Compact VHS variants offered by other brands, allowing the inclusion of larger 3.5-inch LCD panels. Hitachi's newest camcorders, which are also more power efficient than previous variants, are the H640A, H845LA, H945LA, E645LA, E545La, E540LA, E540A and E340A. These variants offer extended recording time of up to 2.5 hours with the built-in lithium ion rechargeable battery.

Sony deploys Digital 8 format in latest camcorder introductions
Article Abstract:
Sony Corp has introduced four new camcorders which feature its innovative and proprietary Digital 8 format. Three of the four products are part of TRV camcorder line which offers LCD monitor while the fourth is a member of the TR series which does not have an LCD monitor. The products are the DCR-TRV110K, DCR-TRV310K, CCD-TR290PK and the CCD-TRV66K. The Digital 8 is capable of capturing sharp images with 500 horizontal scanning lines, lesser cross color and provides output similar to those of Digital Video camcorders.

Japanese manufacturer Hitachi Inc will launch a new lineup of compact, advanced performance camcorders in 1998. The new models will feature the latest basic mechanism developed for 8 mm camcorders. The diversity of user preferences in different sectors of the global camcorder market has prompted Hitachi to shift its business strategies. It has therefore tightened its focus on the development of 8 mm models until advanced digital camcorders become available at low prices.
