Sony Corp's latest audio-video receivers are differentiated from the competition by their use of Sony's original sound field reproduction technology. The receivers are also compatible with Dolby Digital and Digital Theater System technology. While the market for home theater systems remain relatively small, the company sees some favorable trends spurring the growth of the market. The company expects North America to remain the biggest market for home theater systems.

STR-V555ES A/V receiver from Sony

Sony Corp has introduced the STR-V555ES audio-video receiver with Virtual Matrix 6.1 mode that reproduces 6.1-channel Surround sound without the need for additional speakers but through virtual 3D technology. The STR- V555ES also incorporates the Digital Concert Hall A/B mode for recreating the acoustic effects of music halls. It works as a pre-main amplifier by connecting the DSP circuit and cutting off the power to the DSP when a CD is replayed with analog input.

Sony shifts DVD gears from audio emphasis to European interest

Sony Corp has announced its strategy to boost the sales of DVD players in the global markets, particularly in Europe.
