Tiny TVs go rugged

Consumer electronics manufacturers have launched their latest lines of portable color TV sets in time for 1999 holiday season. Casio is offering is offering two models: the TV-1900 which features a Ti-STN 2.7-inch LCD display, VHF and UHF channels, and the JY-70 ruggedized mini TV for outdoor uses. Thomson has also launched its line of mini TV which ranges from a tiny 2-in LCD set to a 9-inch direct portable under the RCA brand. Other available models are Amtel's 5-in display all-weather TV, Sony's Watchman FDL with 2.5-inch active matrix screen and Panasonic's CT-9R11 9- in direct-view TV.

Computer manufacturers have introduced new products which are both elegant and stylish. Among the most prominent are Sony's Vaio Slimtop desktop, Future Power's E-Power, NEC's Z1 PC and eOne and eMachines. The Slimtop is equipped with a Pentium III, a 10.8GB hard drive, 64 to 128 MB SDRAM and 4MB video memory. The Z1 sports a home-theater look, featuring a 15-inch, flat, LCD display, a 450MHz Pentium III and a 8.4GB hard drive.
