Video Dealers Ask Big 8mm Question: "Why Now?"
Article Abstract:
Video hardware retailers are wondering why they should risk consumer confusion with the 8mm, when the half-inch market is stable and sales are hotter than ever. Kodak will begin shipping its Kodavision 8mm camera-recorder system later this year. Federated Group president Keith Powell believes that this product introduction is coming two years too early. If it is successful, other major manufacturers will be putting 8mm products on the market late in 1984. If VHSmovie and Betamovie prices come down, Kodak could be left out in the cold.
