A case for semiautomatic optical measurement
Article Abstract:
Semiautomatic optical measurement systems maximize the use of both machines and operators with a high degree of reliability at lower costs than fully automatic or manual systems. Manual systems can measure to within 0.0002 inch at a cost of $5,000 or less, while automatic systems are accurate to within 0.00005 inch at a cost of $50,000 or more. Semiautomatic systems are accurate to 0.0001 or 0.0002 inch with prices ranging from $15,000 to $40,000. Detailed comparisons of systems performance are included.

Versatile micrometer is a measuring standby
Article Abstract:
A micrometer is one of the most widely used and versatile handheld precision measuring gadget. Micrometers vary in size including the well-known 0-to 1-in measurement range to models that are 10-ft across and made of tubular steel or honeycomb aluminum. Electronic models allow higher resolution and data transmissions to personal computers or data collectors for statistical process control. They provide big help to operators since they automatically provide English-to-metric conversions.
