Advanced PATs can bring contractors more business
Article Abstract:
Avdanced portable appliance testers (PATs) are enabling electrical contractors to offer more testing services to users of electrical equipment who are becoming aware of the need for regular testing and the keeping of records as part of their safety procedures. The new testing equipment can also be used to hold records of the test requirements and results of individual appliances. Some PATs have been designed for specific types of appliance while others are capable of recognising the types of test necessary for the appliance in question.

Article Abstract:
Industrial plugs and sockets do not meet European standard BS EN 60 309-1 and are likely to be superceded by decontactors. Decontactors are safer than plugs and sockets because they use butt contacts which do not work loose or overheat. Calculating the breaking capacity is also easier. Nor is it possible to take a live plug out of a decontactor. The pins can be arranged in 24 ways so that each bit of equipment can have its own decontactor. Decontactors meet all health and safety requirements and have low maintenance and repair costs.
