Article Abstract:
With only one in four of the young people serving electrical contracting industry apprenticeships with companies belonging to the Electrical Contractors' Assn (ECA) subsequently being continuously employed by ECA member companies, ECA members provide trained electricians for such economic sectors as transport, manufacturing, processing and industry. The ECA's success in recruiting apprentices for its training scheme has won favour with the British government which has asked the association and the ECA for Scotland to establish and develop the Industry Training Organisation (ITO) for electrical installation engineering.

Training for quality

The UK Electrical Contractors' Association has played a key role in improving standards in the electrical contracting industry. Early initiatives included the organization's involvement in the examining of electrical installers with the City & Guilds of London Institute.
