Article Abstract:

Hydrostatic Transmissions has developed the Landsman motorized lawn mower. This can support a single rotary cutter or three cylinder cutters. It features hydraulic power take-offs, permitting implements to be changed over in between five and 10 minutes. Hydraulic power makes it easy to implement a partial hydraulic lift for the cutters, thus cutting their ground pressure. The company has also used hydraulics to simplify the implementation of a four wheel/two wheel drive system that can be switched while operating the mower.

Polyethylene calls in reinforcements

Article Abstract:

Polyethylene is difficult material to join but a new method of sticking reinforcement patches to polyethylene sheeting could extend its applications. One design features a patch of waterproof cloth tape covering a circular reinforcement, which are coated in adhesive. Another design features strips of reinforcement held in place with cloth tape, and possible applications include low cost rainwear, tents and drawstring bags.

Compact joint is smooth and pure: a new way of transferring torque between misaligned shafts has its roots in the steam age but looks like becoming a technology for the 21st Century

Article Abstract:

A new constant velocity joint enables large amounts of torque to be transferred across shaft misalignments. The new joint is creating interest within the automotive industry, and its main application would be the replacement of joint types used in front-wheel drive car drive trains. It is based on the Oldham coupling which was invented some 200 years ago.
