Auto plant hires 600 in seven months

Article Abstract:

The assembly plant of Lafayette, IN-based Subaru-Isuzu Automotive (SIA) utilized a selection system developed by Select International, based in Pittsburgh, PA, to respond to hire 600 new employees. Select International developed a hiring system, which was initially tested on 150 SIA employees. A SIA team was created to administer the system that involved an application screen, computer-based interactive testing, individual interview, reference checking and production simulation.

GM announces modularity project

Article Abstract:

General Motors Corp. (GM) has launched its Yellowstone program that calls for the development and design of small cars using modularity with GM's suppliers. The program also includes plans to establish the facilities that will assemble and manufacture the small cars near GM. The program's success, however, needs the support of GM union members. The success of Yellowstone is expected to produce improved integrated designs, quality and decreased cost and investment.

AIAG expands mission

Article Abstract:

The Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) adopted a new mission to promote North American automotive products in the international market. The group also aims to foster trading partner cooperation and communication, improve efficiency in the automotive industry through technology, adopt certain business practices and promote cooperation and communication with the government, technical groups and other industries.
