Automation comes to analog
Article Abstract:
The trend toward mixed-signal chips, needed in communications applications, is causing established electronic design automation (EDA) companies, as well as many start-ups, to compete in the rapidly expanding analog/mixed signal chip-design business. New tools are appearing, such as analog synthesis programs, which provide a way to translate specifications into components. The Semiconductor Industry Assn predicts that nearly 70 percent of integrated circuits (IC) will have analog components within five years, compared to about 25 percent today.
