Driving this sealless pum is strictly an inside job
Article Abstract:
Ingersoll-Dresser Pump Co of Chesapeake, VA, is in the process of perfecting the Sealless centrifugal axial-field motor pump (Scamp) that is touted to be more reliable than the canned-motor and magnetic-drive pumps that are currently in use. Scamp, which has an axial-field, permanent- magnet disc motor that is directly integrated into the impeller and the casing cover, is expected to be released in late 2000.

Direct chlorine measurement
Article Abstract:
NovaChem has devised an online method for the direct measurement of chlorine (Cl2) and ferric chloride (FeCl3) in the process fluid, during the production of ethylene dichloride. The new procedure uses a pulsed xenon ultraviolet light to shine through a liquid sample every 15 sec. A spectrophotometer is then used in measuring the absorption spectrum of the liquid and a chemometric algorithm differentiates the Cl2 from the FeCl3. Field tests indicate that it is 50 to 60% more accurate than the sparging method.

Chaos improves the efficiency of vibratory screening
Article Abstract:
Kroosh Technologies has developed a new device that increases by as much as ten times the efficiency of vibratory screens. The device, called the Kroosher multi-frequency adapter, uses the screener's motor to generate vibration and applies the resulting energy directly to the screen. The chaotic vibration on the mesh can create as much as 1,000 Gs of acceleration. The Kroorsher can also filter fine particles without agglomeration or blinding.
