A new management strategy publsihed by the joint advisory committee for the Cotswold ANOB calls for positive encouragment to maintain the character of the Cotswolds. There is a need for planners to be more mindful of the local character of each area of the Cotswolds, and design guidelines have been drawn up for developers to indicate local differences. The report calls for the promotion of green tourism by pursuing countryside crafts and encouraging conservation holidays..

TCPA calls for proactive line on housing targets
Article Abstract:
Planners must be more proactive when fixing targets for where new housing should be built according to recommendations in a report The People - where Will They Go? launched by the Town and Country Planning Association, funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. The report suggests that in some areas green belts may need to be rolled back as brownfield sites become more elusive.

Scots lament late arrival of NPPG on transport
Article Abstract:
Planners and transport organisers have welcomed the Scottish draft NPPG on transport and planning, although its late arrival has been criticised. The draft contains new guidance on new settlements based on a fairly radical approach. However there are concerns that the guidance talks of influencing the rate of traffic growth instead of managing growth.
