EU ruling could cause road confusion in UK
Article Abstract:
The European Commission of the European Union (EU) has ruled that two UK road schemes do not have to be subject to an environmental assessement. This is due to the date on which public consultation started being before a directive was implemented. The EU is withdrawing from legal action, previously planned against the UK government. The road projects are near Newbury, England, and Ayr to Glasgow, Scotland. Environmentalists argue that the law should be clarified.

Surveys predict further gloom for town centres
Article Abstract:
The updated PPG6 will do little to stop the decline of the high street according to a survey by Mintel, market analyst. It is predicted that there will be fewer retailers in the year 2000 although there are expected to be more services such as solicitors. The latest survey from the RICS shows that retail sales fell in the three months to September.
