Effects of rejects on in-process inventories in serial production lines
Article Abstract:
A computer simulation study was carried out to determine the effects of rejects on in-process inventory levels in serial production lines. The study was conducted using a FORTRAN-based model to monitor system behavior for numerous small pilot runs. Results indicate that the presence of random rejects at different stages of the production makes it difficult for process engineers to balance or integrate the entire production process.

EOQ type formulations for controlling repairable inventories
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to evaluate EOQ formulations for controlling inventories of repairable goods. The study focuses on a singleitem case where scrapping rates and ample repair capacity are assumed. A situation where multiple items with similar and restrained repair capacities is also considered. Results show that the standard inventory control theory is applicable to the repairable inventory case.

Parameter estimation and performance measurement in lost sales inventory systems
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the impact of parameter estimation and performance measurement in lost sales inventory systems. The study focuses on retail markets where customers depend on sales data for information. Out-of-stock products are then shown to have no indication of potential sales lost. Results show that sales data estimation is subject to errors when sales losses are incurred.
