FEA analysis takes stress out of design: FEA has made dramatic advances during the past few years
Article Abstract:
Stress is a major factor to consider when designing for the transportation of fluids, and an Isle of Wight boat builder has used analytical software to design its boats, resulting in a total change of approach to designing. There are many analytical software packages, either off the shelf, or designed with a single application in mind. FBM Marine was able to simplify designs so that many problematical stress concentrations were removed.

Geared up by better design
Article Abstract:
UK-based David Brown Radicon has overhauled the design appraisal on its Series G gearboxes, The process included identifying the product's market, analysing customer needs and determining where to focus design work. The program resulted in a blueprint and timetable for production, with design and manufacture being tailored to meet the demands of an increasingly competitive marketplace.
