Fine art commission muscles in on planning
Article Abstract:
There have been mixed reactions to the recent call in a report from the Department of National Heritage for the Royal Fine Art Commission to play a more influential role in the planning system. The UK government has stated its belief that there should be improved consistency among planning authorities in referring important development plans to the commission, but does not feel that it is appropriate to introduce measures to allow call-ins simply where the commission's advice has not been accepted. The recommendation has been welcomed by those who highlight the fact that the commission consists of outside experts.
