'Shrink bonding' makes joints stronger
Article Abstract:
The combined effects of shrink fitting and adhesive bonding means that high integrity joints can be achieved. The technology is important to the automotive industry, as well as throughout the manufacturing industry. In tests on a new Renault transmission, the shrink fit was reduced to 0.08mm and was combined with a Loctite retaining adhesive which achieved and estimates static torque of 11,300Nm.
