HIPping banishes wear and corrosion

Article Abstract:

APV Baker Ltd and the Cranfield Institute of Technology, England have developed a durable coating for extruder barrel linings applied by hot isostatic pressing (HIPping). Layers of varied composition may be applied producing differing degrees of durability. Larger quantities of WC particles added to the formula of Ni/Cr/B/Si/Fe provide greater protection. The coating has proved resistant to corrosion and wear in laboratory tests and industrial application. It has reduced APV Baker's extruder production costs and contributed to less equipment downtime.

Fusion bonding grows new honeycombs

Article Abstract:

Supracore Systems has developed a fusion bonding technique with widespread applications. The process enables the manufacture of honeycomb moulds from fusible materials. Properties include impact and sound absorption and insulation. Particular design requirements determine the conformation of the honeycomb. The structure may also be reinforced providing greater strenth. Supracor is lightweight despite its great loadbearing capacity.

Berger Lahr has designed a new electro-hydraulic linear drive 40% cheaper than previously available technology. The LV'E' amplifier will facilitate accurate movement and control of heavy loads.
