Genset system helps hospital keep critical funding
Article Abstract:
Blount Memorial Hospital in Marysville, TN, utilized a turnkey power-generation solution in resolving its inability to attain emergency-power supply-system (EPSS) standards set by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Faced with the prospect of losing Medicare funding amid the power shortage, the 300-bed medical facility commissioned a local systems integrator that collaborated with a generator manufacturer, to bring about a specially-configured power generation system. The new generator set enabled hospital personnel to develop an EPSS load profile to help conform with JCAHO standards, monitor the emergency generator set for performance capabilities and power quality and monitor the state and quality of its main and alternative utility sources.

Careful planning leads to efficient cooling system
Article Abstract:
SAS Institute near Raleigh, NC, is able to find an efficient cooling system for its new 400,000-sq-ft research and development building, called building "R," through careful planning. The software company wanted a centralized heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system that would offer reliability, redundancy, efficiency and low life-cycle costs. SAS satisfied all these requirements by installing commercial, self-contained air-conditioning units on each floor with a variable-air-volume distribution system that would be controlled by a direct-digital-control automation system.
