Getting results fast from a long-term commitment to total quality
Article Abstract:
Several US companies have reported success as a result of total quality management (TQM). On the other hand, many have abandoned TQM because of unfavorable results. Analysis of these failures reveals that TQM was unsuccessful because senior executives were not actively involved; TQM was applied sporadically; programs did not change behavior or produce repeated, significant short-term results; TQM was not adopted as a philosophy but as an agenda item; or TQM was mistakenly perceived as merely a manufacturing strategy. Customer-focused quality, which can help overcome these problems, is discussed.

TQM in the test environment
Article Abstract:
Total quality management (TQM) is often associated with the manufacture of quality hardware. TQM can also be valuable in other aspects of manufacturing, including the area of testing. The test requirements in a manufacturing contract represents the level of quality that the customers expect. It must be ensured, however, that the test program is appropriate with the product or system design. Quality is only achieved through the use of the right test program on a specific product.
