Industry sets pace on green issues. (process pumps and valves)
Article Abstract:
Pumps and valves are constantly changing due to increasing demands by customers and government mandates relating to environmental issues. There has been a rise in computer control systems which make efficient use of pumps and valves, and some manufactuers take the approach of downsizing. New products include metal-to-metal seated butterfly control-valves, plastic directional valves and bolt-on options.

Dumb valves evolve to win intelligence
Article Abstract:
IMI Norgren is developing valve technology which will revolutionize the design of pneumatic systems. The company is close to producing the intelligent valve which will be able to diagnose problems precisely and prevent system failures. The intelligence will be in the valve, rather than the fieldbus or the PLC, which means the valves need not be in valve islands. Designers will be able to put them back into the machine, close to the cylinder they control, as was the case in older designs.
