Modularity dictates new path for pneumatics
Article Abstract:
Advances in valve technology are enabling revolutionary development in the pneumatics industry. Pneumatic ancillaries can now perform better and be increasingly miniaturized or modular. One example comes from Festo Research and Development in Germany where advances in miniaturization and efficiency have enabled a 10 mm valve system to allow a flow rate of 400 litres per minute. Another is the PVLB10 valve island system from Parker Pneumatic which extends advances in modularity by allowing valves to plug into their neighbour rather than a central manifold.

High speed switching sharpens control: with the introduction of closed-loop control, pneumatics can now be regulated to a much greater extent offering improved accuracy
Article Abstract:
Pneumatics can now be more easily controlled following the development of a new system of closed loop control. Pneumatic engineering is becoming more significant because of increasingly automated production systems, and the industry is constantly seeking higher capabilities from its equipment. Closed loop technology is being used car assembly where both weld current and pressure needs to be controlled.

Modularity motors into a higher gear
Article Abstract:
Bayside Motion Group has developed a spacesaving combined motor and gearbox unit. The design is useful for areas where space is limited and high torque is required. The servo-driven, integrated precision gearmotor system is targeted at industry sectors such as machine tools, automotive and food processing.
