Natural attenuation: is the fit right?
Article Abstract:
Natural attenuation is the reduction in mass, mobility or toxicity of soil, sediment or groundwater contaminants by naturally-occurring physical, chemical or biological processes. The deliberate use of Mother Nature's processes to achieve environmental remediation goals in corrective action programs, or 'monitored natural attenuation,' (MNA) is typically used in tandem with other corrective action measures and rarely as a stand-alone approach. Balancing MNA with engineered remediation solutions can lead to the achievement of cleanup goals at the lowest possible cost while still protecting human health and the environment.

Take steps to ensure proper chemical management
Article Abstract:
Comprehensive chemical management systems can aid chemical process industry companies in improving safety performance and housekeeping, reducing excessive inventories of chemicals and complying with government regulations on hazardous chemicals. Such management systems, when reduced to their most basic form, are simply control tools. A six-step approach is suggested for the development of a comprehensive chemical management system.
