New model army
Article Abstract:
The Movement for Innovation's proposed 'New Model Partnering Contract' for construction projects is designed to overcome the problems that have arisen as a result of the UK construction industry's decision to separate design from construction. The model rejects normal procurement routes and adversarial approaches, placing emphasis instead on payments for the secondees and for the physical facilities provided and rewards determined by whether the owner's goals are actually achieved. It envisages a single partnering contract between the owner and, collectively, each professional practice, each leading specialist contractor and the construction management firm.

Lux interior
Article Abstract:
The Lux Cinema, in London, United Kingdom, cost 600,000 pounds sterling to build and it has been designed to have a variety of functions other than as a cinema. The Lux has a flat floor and the seats are removable so that the space can be used for seminars or theatre performances. The acoustics can also be altered because of panels which reflect sound on one side and absorb it on the other. The panels can be opened so light comes in through windows. The cost of installing the electrical equipment was 85,000 pounds.
