On paper, coupling excels

Article Abstract:

A dramatic reduction in instances of paper breakage is presented at a large Scottish paper mill after the installation of Renold Hi-Tec PM18 couplings in the drive train of a large capacity paper winder. The root cause was the cumulative affect of mechanical wear and blackash in the winder drive's gearbox and coupling which caused the paper to snatch as the winder decelerates.
